Where is the low side charging port?
The low side service valve is located in the line that runs from the compressor through the evaporator (firewall) and up to the condensor on the low pressure (suction) side of the system.
Which port is the low side port?
The low side service port is usually located between the AC compressor and evaporator. The low side service port will have a black or blue plastic cap that needs to be removed. The low side service port is the only port to which the AC Avalanche coupler will connect. Never charge through the high side port.
Where is the high side service port?
Locate the high side port on the line that goes from the compressor to the condenser. The high side port will have a 16 mm quick-disconnect valve fitting with a red cap on vehicles with R134a, or a 3/8-inch threaded valve fitting on vehicles with R12.
What is a high side service port?
The high-side charge port is a quick-connect fitting that provides access to the high-pressure side of the A/C system. Most A/C systems are evacuated and filled from the high-side charge port in the assembly plant.
Why is my high side pressure low?
Lower than normal pressures on both high and low side, with the correct amount of refrigerant, could mean a problem building pressure in the system or too much heat is being removed at the condenser. A pressure switch or sensor could be bad.
What color is the low side of an AC system?
Red hose goes to the high pressure side, blue goes to the low pressure side and yellow hooks to Freon source, can, etc.
What is the high pressure port for?
The high side service port is a fitting that provides access to the high pressure side of the AC system and the low side service port is a fitting that provides access to the low pressure side of the AC system.
What happens if you put freon in wrong?
You cannot mix refrigerant types, and putting the wrong refrigerant in your car will cause damage to the air conditioning system! If you’re not sure which kind of refrigerant your vehicle takes, DIY A/C charging may not be for you.
What are AC ports?
The refrigerant charge port is the connection point where new refrigerant can enter the system during an A/C system recharge. Your port is usually located on the bigger A/C hose near or on the accumulator.
Can you charge AC on the high side?
The high side fitting is located between the AC compressor and condenser and is the larger of the two fittings. Consult the service manual to verify the exact location of the low-side service port. If hooking a can of refrigerant with a single hose/gauge to the car, you will use the low side.
What are the signs of a bad expansion valve?
Symptoms of a bad expansion valve
- Car AC system isn’t cooling enough or won’t cool at all.
- High side pressure is high.
- Air coming from vents is frosty.
- AC blows cold, then hot.
- AC kicks on and then immediately kicks off.
- Airflow drops dramatically from vents.
